I thought I should start off this thread, so those participating are plenty aware, and plenty prepared.
The time between now and the start of November will fly by, so you need to have things ready before then. Unless you want a tough month like I had, November 2014.
What you can do:
Hopefully, this is a useful start for people.

The time between now and the start of November will fly by, so you need to have things ready before then. Unless you want a tough month like I had, November 2014.
What you can do:
- Have an outline. This will be a brilliant thing. It doesn't need to be a blow by blow account, it just needs to tell you what is happening. It can be completely random: The Wombles find a dead body, and set out to solve the murder. A little girl wishes she could be a mermaid, and wakes up one day to find herself in the sea. The Grim Reaper goes on holiday. What you are looking for is a way to start you off.
- Know who your main character is. This will seem obvious, but you would be amazed how many people just don't do it. Who are they? How old? Where were they born? Do they live with parents? Do they have siblings? What job do they have? All these details are going to be a massive help, because that is a big safety net right there. You don't have to use all the information, but it can be there, to help you out.
- Know the story location. Where your story is happening will be a huge part of how the story shapes and evolves. If it isn't local, or well known to you, do research. Try to find out as much as you can. And remember, you have Google Earth... and Streetview. You can visit a place, and not leave your chair. I cannot tell you just how invaluable that it.
Hopefully, this is a useful start for people.
