Dark Eldar

Now those are impressive.

Yes, they are. And they really set the bar at a certain level...

But there is plenty of amazing paintjobs out there, trust me. And conversions... Watch this space, because it will get updates. Including pics of my humble efforts.

Been looking at the new Archon figure, which I bought, and part assembled:



I am thinking of replacing the head with the one for the Succubus, also newly released:



And also use the bladed weapon arm for that Archon as well. The idea is to try and generate a female Archon from the figure. I also want to shave off the skull, because I don't like it as a feature on the figure.

Thoughts?

After all that, I managed to lose the head under the desk somewhere... I'll have to work on getting it back.

It is a replacement from the previous version, which was perfectly fine. I think it is a case of them replacing all the Finecast models in the range with plastic. Not a massive shock, because Finecast has always been a mixed bag, in my opinion...

Still wanting to shave off the skull on the shoulderpad...

I like the facial expression on the artwork.

Yeah - the skull could do to come off. Would you replace it with anything or file / green-stuff it smooth?

More on this front.

I've now built up a lot of Wytches, ignoring the males ones. I had some female ones unmade, so have been building them up as well. Also, there are Wytches to man the guns and hang on the Venom model, so have been using those torsos as well. I have about fifteen Wytches as a result.

Not only that, I've been looking at the existing models I have painted up. I started an army before, though it was in a constant state of evolution. Regardless, I thought of looking, to see what might be useable in the new idea I have for them all.

To my amusement, I have found that I have a number done the way I want them. There are variations in the armour, and my intention is to have each armour signifying a particular regiment.At the moment, I have painted up the following specialisations:

Praetorian Guard
Jungle Regiment
Desert Regiment (provisionally called 'The Bloodwinds')
Ice blue/turquoise coloured Regiment, with a Succubus in colours to she she is a leader of that Regiment.

The question I now have... what remaining special regiments could there be remaining? I can create - slowly - an Arctic regiment, because there are Wytches in the Venom kit I am using, and there are torsos there that are showing no flesh. I also have been making this army - The Wytch based element, at least - all female.

Onto the Archon I was talking about... I have removed the skull from the shoulder, by cutting it all away, spike included. I had a random spike available, so I put that in in its place. I also used the face part of the skull by putting it on the base, at the top end of a ribcage that is there on the front of the base scenery. I also managed to find the head, and have blu-tacked it on. I glued the flowing hair on, so the head is now complete.

Last night, the local GW store was open late, so I went in there to get the latest codex for the army, and I was recommended in buying some Scourges:

Amusingly, I have some unmade Scourges already, and plan to create feathered, female Scourges, to make up the unit of five. One nice thing is that they have made units now into groups of five, so one standard troop box will yield two units. Of course, you need to spend a stupid amount for the rule books, which is not helpful. The Codex I have is hardback, and is a really nice, well made book, with colour throughout. Problem is, I have RPG suppliments that are cheaper than it is, and they are as well produced, if not coloured all the way through.

I also have some unmade Hellions, all still on the sprue. So I'll likely be getting Hellions put together, because I have more unmade as well. And yes, as you've guessed, all female. Why not? It'll be different, and I can still use the male versions elsewhere in the army.

So, I guess I have been a little busy on this front.

And the way the guy did it... I need to spray and paint the wings first, before putting them on the model. Duly noted...

Well, the thing is that they had a massive revamp in 2010. When they did the revamp, they got in one sculptor to do the bulk of the work. The sculptor? Jes Goodwin. This guy has been doing the Eldar models, and still does. This means that there is a symmetry between the two armies, and a unified look. Here is an example:



The one on the left is an Eldar Vyper. The one on the right is a Dark Eldar Venom. The Vyper is effectively a fast moving weapons platform. The Venom is the same type of ship, but has become a dedicated transport. It takes five individuals to a set location.

The key here is that both armies have a shared origin: The Eldar Empire. After the destruction, they started to evolve along different paths. The Guardians and Kabalite Warriors are an example. Not only that, but the Dark Eldar ended up with a coup, and you ended up with a despotic ruler in charge. He is the one that really shaped the Dark Eldar to what they are now.

What annoys me about the new Codex is that the Chapterhouse Effect has smackered the HQ selection right down. Still, I have the old Codex, so can use them as well. It also annoys, because there are a lot of interesting characters now missing.

Point of interest, I'm looking at making my army differently. I'll be adding some models from other companies, because they look brilliant. On that note... need to start that listing of other model companies.

Just a small update:

I have now put together quite a few Wyches now.I'm moving on to the Scourges, trying to make them all female, since everything else assembled so far is...

One is done, lacking the wings, which need to be painted separately. It has a shardcarbine - a weapon like a shotgun - and a plasma grenade in the other hand. Having read the book, I can take three Scourges with heavy weapons. Expect me to use that to the hilt...

I will likely paint them ice blue/turquoise, since there is a lot already in that colour. Is this the colour scheme of my regular, run-of-the-mill army? Or shoud the regulars be something else?

Done... Just need a name for the regular army...

And I need to work out the rest... I have maybe nine different armour designs I can use...

Thinking of going back to the original idea for the army, the background I was creating when I first started them...

Still, I was reading the new Codex earlier, and saw they mentioned the Dysjunction, so they are pretty much up to date on that score...

... And guess what? I've found another box of Wyches... Looks like I was wise not to buy any more on Friday... I've got a scary amount of them now!

It also means I can create two more Kabalite Trueborn... Maybe I can get to finish off the second unit?
